Why you started riding a bike: I started at a young age inspired by my father, Kip Smith, Indiana University’s Head Sports Medicine Director and a Hall of Fame Athletic Trainer.

Why you started racing a bike: I started riding bikes because I was asked to be on the Cutters team in the Indiana University Little 500 (Breaking Away).

What do you love most about racing: I love the “chess match” that goes on during the race. Tactics, wit, or just pure guts is the love of the sport. No race is ever the same and it’s nice that the win doesn’t always go to the strongest athlete.

Best memory from racing: My first NRC race. 110 guys. $5K prime on the 3rd lap. Wrecked into Dave Z on the 2nd lap. 60 man pile up. Welcome to the big leagues.

Worst memory from racing: Same memory.

Favorite Race: Quad Cities or Tour de Toona.
